The Managers would like to share some news from the Club relating to our Japanese business activity.
Given the importance of the Japanese shipping market to the Club and to support our continued growth in the region, the Managers are delighted to advise that Ms Aki Tsukui will join the Club this month, based in our Singapore office. Aki is a Japanese citizen and England & Wales qualified solicitor with extensive experience in the P&I sector from her time with UK P&I Club, with a particular focus on the Japanese and Asian markets. Aki will work closely with the Club’s Tokyo and Singapore teams, as well as the Club’s other global offices in further developing our Japanese service offering, as well as supporting the overall membership of the Club.
The Managers are also pleased to advise that Tom Davies has recently joined the Club from Gard with a focus on our Japanese business. Tom is an England and Wales qualified solicitor and has worked in the P&I Club world for 11 years, as well as in private practice for 8 years with an international law firm. Tom will relocate from London and be based in Tokyo.
Aki and Tom will bring further experience and knowledge to our Eastern Syndicate teams in Tokyo, Singapore and London, in a region which represents 44% of the Club’s gross tonnage, and we look forward to introducing them both to our Japanese membership and brokers.
In addition to Aki and Tom’s visits to Japan over the next two months, Jonathan Andrews (CEO), Rohan Bray (Head of Eastern Syndicate), Peter Hulyer (CCO), Jamie Taylor (CEO of Steamship Singapore) and Suumit Madhu (Underwriting Director, London) will be also visiting our Japanese members and brokers, as well as speaking at seminars in Tokyo and Imabari and conducting workshops for our members.
The Managers would also like to announce that Mr Koji Aragane, the CEO of Steamship Japan, has made the decision to retire in the next two months after four years with the Club. Mr Aragane, who had a long career in the marine insurance industry, helped establish Steamship’s presence in Japan, developing relationships and our presence in this important market. On behalf of the Club and its membership, the Managers would like to thank Mr Aragane for his hard work and dedication and wish him well in his retirement. The successor to the representative for Japan will be announced in the near future.

We look forward to hosting another Board meeting in Japan soon, following our last visit in 2019.”
