CHINA: Low Sulphur Content Fuel Regulations from 1.10.2018

Earlier this month, the Club published information supplied by Club correspondents Huatai advising that low sulphur fuel requirements for Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan and Jiaxing regions.
Correspondents Huatai advise that Jiangsu MSA will enforce similar regulations from 1 October 2018 for Suzhou and Nantong. Huatai’s circular PNI1815 of 12 September 2018 has further details and can be read here .

In December 2017, Steamship published a circular from Club correspondents Huatai regarding implementation of low sulphur fuel requirements. Huatai have informed us that the implementation of these measures is being brought forward to 1 October 2018. Huatai’s circular PNI1814 has further details of the requirements which include:
- From 1 October 2018, all sea-going ships arriving at Zhoushan should use fuel with a sulphur content of no more than 0.5% mm when they enter the Emission Control Area or ECA;
- From 1 October 2018 ships able to use shore power shall prioritise using shore power at Ningbo-Zhoushan and Jiaxing;
Please note Huatai’s recommendation that ships due to call at Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan and Jiaxing from 1.10.2018 should ensure they are able to satisfy the requirements that will be in force.
